Huzzah! And welcome to TellyWars.com!
What’s this all about then? Well after the recent UK TV market drama involving VirginMedia and BSkyB, I thought it was worthwhile setting up a site to rant about the UK TV and cable industry from a consumer’s point of view.
Firstly, disclosure.
- I don’t work for VirginMedia or BSkyB in any shape or form. Or any other TV / cable company.
I am a freelance Internet Marketing consultant and I have covered some of the topics regarding the changes to the UK cable / satelite TV market on my marketing blog, but things were getting a bit off topic and I wanted to cover this in more detail, hence this site.
The main reason I wanted to do this is that I initially did feel that some of the press releases from both Virgin and Sky were pretty good (from a marketing point of view) but they started becoming a little bitchy and from a consumer’s point of view, that ain’t good.
Basically both companies are in a power struggle to grab customers from each other just now - things are fairly confusing for consumers as there are a lot of mixed messages being thrown around so I thought I’d try to clarify some of the chatter.
What I would like to achieve from this is to create a calm within the storm that is ensuing just now. Or just to be a pain in the ass for both companies and send the message that consumers aren’t just statistics to be bullshitted and messed around with.
As things settle down, I’d like to use this blog to chat about some of the other stuff affecting the UK TV industry - everything from TV shows to, er, more TV shows.
